Helmsdale Hives

We are a small, family owned and operated, New Zealand business based in the green highlands of Waipu, Northland.

Our apiaries are a part of our family farm, handed down to us so we could bring you the bees’ own blend of native woodland and pastoral nectars. We are passionate about our bees and aim to bring you honey just as nature intended it.

We operate a small-scale packing house, tailor-made to minimize waste and to pack honey with a gentle heat, without destroying the natural health properties that make it so special. This is how we provide 100% raw liquid honey, straight from the hive.

The humble honey bee has been a major part of human survival to date, now it’s time to return the favor.

As more and more pressure is put on our world’s bee population by Varroa mites, pesticides, diseases and loss of habitat, it’s now up to us to step in and do our part to ensure their survival, as they are no longer able to survive unassisted.

Our vision involves the full planting of our family farm with a variety of native trees for bees with developed permanent hive locations, to give them the best shelter and conditions available. The honey our bees provide gives us the resources we need to make it happen.   

Planting has already begun and we will be documenting our progress along the way as we create a brighter future for Helmsdale Hives and our bees.

Using automated technology with specialized water filtration, we’re able to keep the costs down for beekeepers & honey producers - limiting our impact on the environment, enabling the re-use and recycling of plastic bee-frames.
